ABOUT --Mrs. Rook
This is a photo of my family. It's an old one, but still a favorite. My husband, Gerry, is retired. Justin graduated from Watertown High School and Jake is a Senior there.
I've been a teacher in Watertown for 35 years! During seven years of that time, I was a technology coordinator, but I love being in the classroom with my 5th graders! I have a Masters Degree in Technology in Education and I'm also an adjunct faculty member at Mount Marty. The Intermediate School has several clubs to join and I'm the advisor for iPad Club! |
I always have big goals for reading in the summer because I can't get as much done during the school year. I'm also in a book club, reading books from my classroom library and finding new read alouds for the class. I went through our classroom library and really sorted the books. I hope you find ones you like.
Reading is one of my favorite things to do because it is relaxing for me, especially when I can sit on my deck with a cup of coffee. I read ebooks from the library on my iPad and I've started listening to audio books. My favorite genres are mystery and historical fiction. I am always on the look out for a good book! Have you been reading? I've also rediscovered a love of coloring! As a kid I really enjoyed coloring in my books and dreamed of having a 64 pack of Crayola Crayons with a sharpener. I thought that was soooo cool. This tree is my first attempt at coloring on a canvas with markers. I even tried blending the colors on the leaves. Johanna Brasford drawings are my favorite to color. |
I made this photo collage on my iPad. I like to take photos with my iPhone and put together collages like this. Hopefully it tells you more about me. During the first few days of school, my students will put together a photo collage too. It's a great way to learn more about each other.
I like flowers, especially gerber daisies. The weeds have been getting ahead of me this summer because of the heat and humidity. I'm trying to get some tomatoes and cucumbers going, but I'll probably have to go the farmers' market for some because the weeds are just crazy! My son, Justin, competes in Special Olympics. He competed in State Equestrian in Huron this summer and did very well- 1 gold and 2 silver medals! I wish I could ride as well as he does. He also participates in swimming, bowling, basketball and track. My other son, Jake, enjoys biking, video games, band, debate and his phone. |
History is my favorite subject to teach & I hope you will enjoy it too. My favorite President is Abraham Lincoln. I know that Washington was the first President and a founding father but Lincoln wins. He came from a log cabin and worked his way to the Presidency with only one year of formal schooling. He taught himself and was always learning, including during his time in office.
A couple of my favorite Lincoln quotes:
"Whatever you are, be a good one."
"The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time."
